The Buyuk Han building is one of the most important bits of Ottoman architecture in Cyprus. For most of its history it was a residence for travellers, but when the British took over in the 19th century, it was used as a prison for the moment. In 1893 it was once again used as an accomodation for underprivileged persons. It took a lot of harm over the next century, but a restoration project beginning in 1992 and taking 10 years finally opened the place to visitors.
